Redefining artistry and distinctive legacy with its signature art collection – the St. Regis Mumbai
The St. Regis has been known world over for its impeccably curated taste in art, right from the iconic mural at The St. Regis New York’s King Cole Bar. The same vision is extended here too at the brand’s first hotel in South Asia, The St. Regis Mumbai.
The extensive art collection at The St. Regis Mumbai, of over 100 art works, is curated by Tushar Sethi, Director of the Institute of Contemporary Indian Art, in partnership with Gayatri Ruia, an art connoisseur and keen collector. Some of the art pieces in the hotel are also from Gayatri’s personal collection.
The piece de resistance of the tour is the Mural at The St. Regis Bar, commissioned to the award-winning artist G.R. Iranna. Iranna’s vision captured the sense that Mumbai encapsulates the nature of human contradictions and this is exactly what is portrayed in the mural with its characters ranging right from the everyday taxi drivers to cult-film actors. Taking inspiration from the iconic ‘Queen’s Necklace’ the artist strings together visual stories that make up the soul of the city.
Keeping in mind the cultural disposition of the country, the art collection at The St. Regis Mumbai comprises Indian masters like S.H. Raza and M.F. Hussain and contemporary artworks and installations by renowned Indian artists including the likes of Satish Gujral, Manu Parekh, Paresh Maity, Jogen Chaudhary and Manisha Parekh amongst the others.
To showcase its commitment and extend a unique experience to the guests, The St. Regis Mumbai hosts an exclusive art tour every Wednesday and Friday from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.
